On behalf of the Governing Body, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the St Aidan’s Church of England Primary School website.

The Governing Body is committed to working in partnership with the Head Teacher and all the school staff, to ensure that your child has the best possible experience while they are part of our school community and that we ensure that they’re ready for the next stage in their development, ‘shine as lights in the world’ (Philippians 2:15). We strive to ensure our Christian ethos, vision and values underpins the decisions that we make and the attitudes that we model.

Membership of the Governing Body is made up of representatives from the Durham and Newcastle Diocese, Parents, Staff and the Local Authority. We meet regularly, both as a full governing body and in committees, to assist the smooth running of the school and to promote the highest possible standards, to ensure every child in our care reaches their full potential. We work in close partnership with the Head Teacher, setting aims and objectives for the school, reviewing and adopting policies to achieve those aims and outlining clear targets. Our role is seen as a ‘critical friend’, offering constructive advice and support.

Whilst the Head Teacher has responsibility for the daily management of the school, Governors have statutory duties and a responsibility to monitor the impact of teaching and learning. We assist in self-evaluation and continuing school development, oversee financial management of the school budget, and have responsibility for appointing staff.

I am immensely proud of our school and the fantastic things that are achieved by those who belong to it. I wish your child every happiness during their time at St Aidan’s.
