Today, we visited the North East BRING IT ON event with some children from Year 6, who had put their names forward to go. The day was fantastic, bringing children together from all parts of the county and educating them on potential jobs for the future. The event itself is mainly based around engineering and has a high focus on mechanical engineering. Our children dove straight in to the activities, using VR sets to look at wind turbines, hydraulic pressure sets to move cranes and mechanical equipment and even team building skills to design structures that real engineers plan in the modern world. It was a super experience and showed our children that there really was more than meets the eye to engineering (a topic rarely delved into in primary schooling). Some of the comments from children were “I want to be an engineer when I grow up” , “I struggled with the challenge at first, but kept going and got the highest score of the whole day!” and “I didn’t realise how cool some of these jobs actually are”. We loved the event and hope we can return next year. We even have some new software we would like to introduce back at school and some engineering start tasks for our peers who did not come – maybe we can change their minds also!
