This half term Year 2 have been fortunate to work with Miss Oldfield from Newcastle Cathedral on learning skills of a chorister. Miss Oldfield teaches the children in the chorister choir at the cathedral. She has taught us about the importance of posture and standing like a ’puppet on a string’ and different warm ups to prepare our bodies, faces and voices to sing. We learnt that a choir must all sing the same pitch and at the same time and we developed our listening skills to help sing in the correct pitch. Over the half term, we learnt and rehearsed three Christmas songs – We Three Kings, Still, Still, Still and Torches, Torches.
For our final week working with Miss Oldfield we rehearsed all three songs and then performed them for Year 6. It was lovely to have an audience to see all of our hard work.
