Today we took part in the NSPCC Number day which involved taking part in lots of different number activities across the day. We started our day counting our dinners, Packed Lunches, Jacket Potatoes and School Meals, we do this by counting in groups of 5. We then took part in a competition in the hall where we worked in our house groups to earn house points for our whole school team.
We read How High is the Sky? which provoked lots of discussions thinking about how we could find out the answer and help Pipkin the Penguin. We spoke about Meter sticks, rulers, measuring tape but thought of something even better. We lay toe to toe across the yard and measured how long we were altogether and thought, had we been stood on each others shoulders would we have reached the sky? We measured using a tape measure and even though we were over 30 meters we decided we still wouldn’t be long enough to reach the sky. The sky is very very far away!
