During Safety Week, we had a great opportunity to broaden our understanding of safety and how to be risk-aware of the dangers that could surround us at sea, in the home, online, out and about in the community and in unfamiliar settings. We thoroughly enjoyed a visit to Safety Works to immerse ourselves in potentially dangerous scenarios in a safe place; we learnt about how to keep ourselves safe through our decisions and actions. Working with the fire service, RNLI, Nexus and road safety officers, we were able to study key life skills that can help us prepare, not only for summer, but for our future independence at secondary school.
We also took part in an informative session of First Aid training. We learnt about how to administer CPR whilst seeking help from the emergency services, how to use a defibrillator and an EpiPen, as well as how to deal with someone who is choking. These skills could be vitally important for us to learn as we could save someone’s life in the future as a result of what we have learnt.
