Today, Year 6 enjoyed a sun-soaked day at Gibside National Trust. We took part in a range of activities, focusing on the benefits of spending time outside in nature and skills that can help all of us to better look after our mental and physical health.
First, we took part in team building activities and an activity using blindfolds where our partners had to help us navigate safely around a wooded area. This showed us the importance of good communication and collaboration for our safety and wellbeing. After lunch, we took part in a Sound and Music workshop, singing songs and memorising tongue twisters. Then we took part in a meditation and mindfulness workshop around the camp fire. We discussed ways to calm our minds and explored ways to reconnect to nature, each other and ourselves. Finally, we discussed what our goals for the future were and how we could break them down in achievable steps to help overcome challenges, do things we thought were impossible and increase our self-confidence.
The day’s activities were engaging, contemplative and enjoyable, and provided us with meaningful experiences and simple strategies that we can all use to help navigate the twists and turns in our lives.
