This week, year 6 attended the annual leavers service at Durham Cathedral. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and then lead to various prayer spaces throughout the wonderful building. In each area we delved deeper into our spiritually, revisited the important message of the lost sheep as well as other interactive activities.
Next, we joined in with some hymns and listened attentively to the sermon, given with such meaningfulness.
After the service, we were able to enjoy our surroundings and the fantastic architecture of the cathedral as we ate our lunch, although it was rather chilly. Then, we were lucky enough to be invited back into the cathedral and look around the cloister area and The Chapter Room where the scene was filmed when Professor McGonagol transformed into a cat in the first Harry Potter film.
The next stop was a trip to get some ice creams to devour as we walked along the riverside in the pouring rain. The weather however, didn’t dampen our spirits. All soggy and exhausted we ventured on the bus to return to school, with some of us not able to keep our eyes open for the journey back.
As ever the children were impeccably behaved with wonderful manners. Well done everyone.
