Holy Communion

Holy Communion Here at St. Aidan’s

Preparing to take First Holy Communion in St. Aidan’s Church of England Primary School is a meaningful journey that blends spiritual growth with community celebration. We feel both blessed and fortunate that we have the ability to support children in this sacrament and is an occasion in our school calendar that is greatly cherished by the whole school community.

This significant time in a child’s faith journey takes place during the academic year of Year 4. Preparation for the sacrament of Holy Communion is delivered by school staff and members of the clergy in a six-week programme that explores all elements of the Eucharistic service, their significance and importance for Christians.

We ask for the support of parents if children decide that they would like to take this step in their faith journey. If children have not been Baptised but would still like to take this step, then we offer the opportunity for Baptism here at school.

Preparation and the taking of First Holy Communion takes place in the Spring and Summer Terms of the school year. Culminating in a special Eucharistic Service that is held in school, family and supporters of the children are encouraged and welcome to attend. We celebrate during this service through sharing in the bread and wine, singing hymns, prayers and performing a liturgical dance.

Parents of children in the appropriate year group will be sent information about this sacrament early in the Spring Term.

This experience is both personal and shared—marking a step forward in each child’s spiritual life while strengthening their connection to the wider church family, whilst making a commitment to their faith for the future. If you would like to discuss this please contact school office@staidanscofe.org
