Welcome from the Chair of the Academy Council
On behalf of the Academy Council, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the St Aidan’s Church of England Primary School website.
The Academy Council, formally known at the Governing Body, is committed to working in partnership with the Headteacher and all the school staff, to ensure every child has the best possible experience during their time at St Aidan’s. We strive for all children to reach their full potential, preparing them for the next stage in their development, to ‘shine as lights in the world’ (Philippians 2:15) whilst living out our school vision ‘I have come in order that you may have life: life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10)
Membership of the Academy Council is made up of representatives from the Durham Diocese, Parents and Staff. Whilst the Headteacher has operational responsibility for the daily management of the school, the Academy Council’s role is strategic, having responsibility for:
- in partnership with the Headteacher, setting the school’s vision, ethos and strategic direction
- offering professional challenge and support to the Headteacher and members of the Senior Leadership Team
- in partnership with the Headteacher, promoting and maintaining high standards of educational practice and achievement
- holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
- overseeing the financial performance of the school, making sure its money is well spent.
- ensuring Christian values, vision and ethos underpins the decisions that we make and the attitudes that we model.
I am immensely proud of our school, and the fantastic things that are achieved by those who belong to it. I wish your child every happiness during their time at St Aidan’s.
