This half term, Year 3 have been learning all about Rocks and Soils. So far we have learned that there are three main types of rocks; Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary, as well as learning all about how they are formed throughout the Rock Cycle. This week we completed a science experiment to show us how permeable different types of soil can be noting down the immediate effect when we poured water onto the soil and then observing how things changed after a period of five minutes, looking mainly at the amount of water which had seeped through and the colour of the water in the cylinder. The children have really enjoyed the hands-on side of learning that the topic of Rocks and Soils have brought us so far and look forward to moving into learning how fossils were made next week!
