With the Olympics coming up in Paris this Summer the Gateshead Schools Sports Partnership have organised their very Own Gateshead Inspire Torch Relay. The torch is on a journey across 27 schools in Gateshead before finishing at the Athletics festival which some of our KS2 children are attending at the end of the month.
The children started their day by watching an inspiring video of the journey of the Olympic torch during the 2012 London Games. We then headed down to the field to take part in a group warm up to music. Each class then took it in turns to run around the track in a relay race passing on the torch. The children were very enthusiastic and not only enjoyed running but also cheering on and encouraging the other classes too.
Once back at class the children also had an opportunity to design their very own Olympic Torch. We had some fantastic entries which incorporated the Olympic rings, the colours of the Union Jack as well as some inspiring quotes. The winning entries will be submitted into a competition with the other Gateshead Schools and the overall winning design will be used as the torch design for the next torch relay.
Well done St Aidan’s for all of your fantastic efforts!
