Making Carousels

This half term, our DT topic is called ‘fairground ride’ and based around Victorian carousels. We had the challenge to design and make a carousel that was visually appealing for children and small enough for them to hold as well as making it rotate.

We designed our carousels, drawing cross-sectional diagrams and labelling all materials needed for the component parts. We then used CAD ( computer aided design) to turn our designs into a 3-D model. Next we used the materials to build our carousels before finally adding the motor to make it rotate. This task was tricky at times and required a lot of patience and team work but the children showed great resilience throughout.
