Special Places – St Chad’s Church

Reception Class took a lovely sunny stroll to our parish church of St Chad’s in Bensham as part of our RE topic on ‘Special Places’. We were welcomed by Reverend Hannah and Marilyn who kindly showed us around the beautiful building. They explained to us why the church is a special place and we learnt about the different special places within the church. We gathered around the font, where new members are welcomed through Baptism. We saw the altar where the Eucharist is prepared and saw the lectern where the priest shares readings from the Bible. The church Bible was enormous compared to our class Bible. The children asked some wonderful questions about different parts of the church that they noticed such as the candles, the windows, the organ pipes and the different carvings and statues. There were so many interesting things to see and learn about. They did a fantastic job answering questions that were asked, showing off their knowledge and understanding in RE.
