Our Pilgrimage to Holy Island

On Monday, Year 6 enjoyed a visit to Holy Island. Having learnt about St Aidan and the monastery that he established on Holy Island when he was reintroducing Christianity to Northumberland during Anglo-Saxon rule, we were enthusiastic to see the places that he lived and worked. We began by visiting the Priory and the statue of St Aidan, from which we had stunning views of the harbour and Lindisfarne Castle.

Then we walked to St Cuthbert’s Island and took part in a liturgy, in which we reflected on our time at St Aidan’s and our hopes for the future. After enjoying a picnic on the beach, we played on the beach, created artwork using shells and pebbles and enjoyed rockpooling in the water.

Finally, we joined the rest of the school in a short collective worship led by Reverend Hannah before our long journey back to school. Some wonderful memories made to remember our time here at St Aidan’s fondly!
