Holy Island Highlights

On Monday, children from Year 1 to Year 6 enjoyed a visit to Holy Island.

The children learnt about the work of St Aidan on the island and the monastery that he established when he was working to spread Christianity through Northumberland. The children enjoyed seeing the places that he lived and worked.

The children had the opportunity to visit the Priory and the statue of St Aidan, admire the wonderful views of the harbour and Lindisfarne Castle, look at wildlife through the wildlife window, sketch the views from the lookout tower, search for crabs in the rock pools, play in the sand, build cairns with flat pebbles and above all have lots of fun with friends.

Year 6 walked to St Cuthbert’s Island and took part in a liturgy. The children reflected on their time at St Aidan’s and considered their hopes for the future.

Finally, the school joined together in a short collective worship led by Reverend Hannah before the long journey back to school.

Some wonderful experiences and magical memories were made to remember!
