Today in R.E we learnt about a Muslim celebration to welcome a baby. This Islamic celebration is called Aqiqah. In this welcoming ceremony a prayer is whispered into the babies right ear and the baby is given a small drink of date juice. The babies hair is also shaved off and weighed. The weight of the hair is then given in gold to a charity. We tasted prune juice, roti bread and date fruit just like family and friends do when they gather to celebrate the new baby.
