Children in Year One spent the week joyfully celebrating Friendship Week. Inspired by the story Elmer, they explored the idea that it is wonderful to be different and that everyone’s uniqueness should be celebrated. Through class discussions, the children learned that Elmer’s colourful patchwork skin represents individuality, kindness, and acceptance. They reflected on how friends support one another and how small acts of kindness make a big difference.
To bring these themes to life, the children worked together to create a giant Elmer artwork. Each child designed a brightly coloured patch, expressing their own personality through patterns and colours. When the patches were combined, they formed a large, vibrant elephant that symbolised unity in diversity.
