Last week, St Aidan’s enjoyed celebrating Book Week with many book-themed activities across the week. We discussed the importance of reading for pleasure to develop our vocabulary, knowledge and understanding of the world and learning across the curriculum as well as to look after our mental and emotional wellbeing. On Wednesday morning, Year 6 visited Dunston library. As well as reminding ourselves how libraries are organised, we enjoyed browsing the library collection together, talking about books we enjoy reading and making recommendations to one another. Then on Thursday, we took part in a World Book Day live lesson led by the BBC before welcoming our parents to share a book with us in our library at the end of the day. On Friday, we dressed up as our favourite book characters, enjoyed shared reading with Year 2 and created artwork inspired by book characters using watercolour paint.
