Women in Science

In Science this half term, we have been researching and learning about different women throughout the years who have made some sort of impact in relation to Science.

The women we researched were as follows:

Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) A pioneer of both modern nursing and data visualisation.

Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin (1910-1944) Chemistry and Z-ray crystallographer and Noble prize winner.

Gladys West (1930-2026) American mathematician who contributed to our understanding of the world’s shape.

Rachel Carson (1907-1964) Marine biologist and conservationist.

Katherine Johnson (1918-2020) A NASA mathematician.

Caroline Herschel (1750-1848) The first woman to discover a comet.

We researched where the women lived and their early life experiences, what type of education they had, why they are now famous and if they faced any obstacles throughout their life.
