Design Technology – Making Banana Muffins

In DT this half term, Year 3 have been preparing to make their own banana muffins. Earlier in the half term, they learnt about healthy eating, food hygiene, food storage and allergies. On Friday, it was time for them to make their banana muffins!

First, the children in class washed their hands thoroughly before touching any utensils or ingredients. Miss Greenwell, along with two sous chef’s, then weighed out all of the ingredients that were needed for our tasty treats. We were working in small groups, so used the following in each batch; 1 large ripe banana, 50g soft brown sugar, 65ml vegetable oil, 115g self raising flour, 1 egg and 1/2tsp bicarbonate of soda. Miss Greenwell then pre heated the ovens to 200oc. In our groups, we first peeled the banana and mashed it with the back of a fork. Next, we added the oil, egg and brown sugar to the mixing bowl, gradually whisking all of the ingredients together. We then added the self raising flour and bicarbonate of soda, before slowly folding the mixture until it was fully combined. Once combined, we took it in turns to spoon the mixture into muffin cases. Miss Greenwell then placed the muffin trays into the hot ovens and baked for 15 minutes. We allowed the muffins cool and then enjoyed eating them at the end of the school day! Yum!
