Our Geography topic in Year 1 this half term is; Our Local Area.
In our lesson this week, the children used a map to help them learn and locate the four countries that make up the United Kingdom; England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
We then went on a walk around the school grounds, using maps to guide us to different areas that were hidden with a blank shape. It was our job to work together and work out where the shapes led us too. Once we found the correct place, we drew a picture in the middle of the shape to help us remember where the location was. These included; Forest School (Fire), Car Park (Car) and Main Yard (Trees).
Once back in class, the children located their local area of Gateshead on a map in their books.
