PE – Throwing, Catching and Targets

Following on from their throwing and catching lesson in PE last week, Year 1 continued with the skills they had developed from their last lesson and transferred these skills into targets this week.

For their warm up game, Year 1 played a game of ‘Traffic Lights’ where they had to run around the yard, if Mrs Smith said ‘red’ they would stand still, if she said ‘amber’ they would walk and if she said ‘green’ they would run.

They then played a game of ‘Stuck in the Mud’ where some children in class were chosen to wear a coloured bib and ‘tag’ other children whilst running, The only way the children could run again was if another child went underneath their stuck arms. The children then worked in pairs where one child used their underarm throws to throw a ball into the other child’s cone. This helped the children with aiming the ball at targets.
