Today, two children from Year 5 and two children from Year 6 were selected to take part in an Able Writer’s Day at Kelvin Grove Primary School. Once we arrived, we were greeted by the author Thomas Rodgers. The children were set away with a task to demonstrate their imaginative skills. They had to write a story in one minute and thirty seconds about a cat, then in one minute a story about a castle and in thirty seconds a story about a tree.
After the children read their stories to the rest of the group, they were then given the opportunity to write their own story. The children shared stories about a magical candy land, a barren planet with wizards and fearsome dragons and a story about a world with many realms filled with mythical creatures using magical powers.
The day ended with a murder mystery activity, in which the children eagerly took part in and thoroughly enjoyed.
