Dissecting a Heart

As part of our Science topic, this afternoon, Year 6 were given the exciting opportunity to dissect a lamb heart. After learning about the purpose of the heart in the human circulatory system, we looked at a diagram of the main parts of the heart, such as the left and right ventricles and the left and right atrium. Then we used scissors to dissect a lamb heart, trying to find the different parts of the heart that we had seen on the diagrams.

Then we learnt about the double circulatory system and used a science model to demonstrate the journey of oxygenated and then deoxygenated blood through the body, delivering oxygen to all of the body’s cells.
