This morning, children and staff members from Year 1 – Year 6 visited St. Chad’s Church for an end of year service.
The weather was glorious, so we all enjoyed a beautiful walk up to the church together. When we arrived, we were greeted by Reverend Rupert and a lady called Marilyn who assists services at the church. We began our service by singing ‘The Benediction Song’, which sounded fantastic in every area of the church. Next, two children from Year 6 read two readings from The Bible. The readings were linked to new experiences and journeys, which fit in perfectly with our Year 6 children leaving school on Friday. Reverend Rupert then spoke to the whole school about the meanings that came from those readings, which included props. A sandwich was used to represent food for thought and thinking. A coat was used to show the love and care that will be carried throughout new experiences. A map was used to represent guidance and thoughts of “keep going”. A toy was used to represent good values. After this, Mrs Lain and Mr Stamp read some prayers, before staff members and children received communion or blessings. The children in Year 6 were then asked to stand at the front of church to hold a candle as Revered Rupert said a prayer. We finished the service by singing “This is Amazing Grace”, which again, was wonderful to hear throughout church.
This service was incredibly poignant, especially with it being the end of the academic year.
