Cooking After School Club – Gingerbread Biscuits

This week during cooking after school club we made gingerbread biscuits.

First, we washed our hands and popped on our aprons. We knew that we were going to get our hands sticky again this week, so we were really excited!

We sifted 350g of plain flour, 2 teaspoons of ground ginger and 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda into a mixing bowl. We then added 100g of soft butter into the mixture and rubbed the butter into the flour with our hands until the mixture looked like breadcrumbs. Next, we stirred in 175g of soft brown sugar into the mixture. Whilst someone was stirring the mixture, another child broke an egg into a small bowl and beat it together with 4 tablespoons of golden syrup. Once thoroughly mixed, we added the wet ingredients into the dry mixture. We then mixed it together with a large spoon until it made a dough. Once the dough was made, we sprinkled flour onto our work surfaces and rolled out the dough until around 5mm thick. We used gingerbread cutters, circle and square shapes to cut out our biscuits. We lay them on a lined baking tray and baked them in the oven for around 12-15 minutes.

Whilst our biscuits were cooking, we cleaned and tidied our areas and then enjoyed some free time to play. We played Jenga and coloured in pictures with our friends.

Our biscuits were scrumptious!
