Able Writers’ Day with Matt Abbott

Today four children from Year 6 enjoyed a creative writing day at Kelvin Grove Primary School with a poet called Matt Abbott. The children engaged in a range of writing activities designed to develop their imagination and choices of adventurous vocabulary for effect on the reader. For example, Matt explained that our senses can enhance our creative writing, and challenged us to use our senses to describe our favourite place. He then encouraged the children to think of an object that is special to them, and write about it from the object’s perspective. The children enjoyed sharing their writing with the group, and seeing how their audience responded to it before being given an opportunity to improve and extend their writing based on feedback from the group.

Mrs Lishman was very impressed with the high quality of writing that was produced and all involved thoroughly enjoyed their day.
