Last half term, our Art Ambassadors took part in a sculpture club every Thursday after school from 3.30-4.30pm. We took part in an exciting competition organised by Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead to design a sculpture to commemorate the families and the patients who have donated organs. Last year, the QE Hospital were able to facilitate 5 patients becoming solid organ donors with the result that 12 people received life-saving or life changing transplants – an incredible achievement that Gateshead can be rightly proud of.
As you can see, the children thoroughly enjoyed the project, working closely with local artist Chris Folwell to create clay prototypes of their design ideas. Mrs Fraser sent the competition entries to the QE Hospital on Friday 31st March, and we have received wonderful feedback! We hope to hear about the results of the competition next half term. Please take a look at our completed sculptures below.
