In science, year 4 have continued to learn about states of matter. The children have learnt that almost everything is made up of particles and they behave differently in solids, liquids and gases.
The particles in solids are arranged in a regular way. This gives solids a fixed shape. The particles in a solid are attracted to one another and stick, this is why they don’t change their shape.
The particles of a liquid are arranged in a random way. They have enough energy to move around and can move over each other, allowing liquids to flow and be poured.
The particles in gases are widely spaced and randomly arranged, meaning they can be easily compressed or squashed.
In our science the children were ‘particles’ and tried to behave in the same way as a particle depending on which state of matter was called out. Can you guess what they are?
