Year 5 Collective Worship – Chinese New Year

On the last day of term in Spring 1, Year 5 led their very own collective worship in front of the rest of the school as well as their parents and carers. The theme for their collective worship was based on ‘Chinese New Year’.

We spoke about how Chinese New Year is the start of the Lunar New Year, a calendar based on the cycles of the moon. People celebrate in many countries, especially across Asia. It is a time for family, celebrations, decorations, sharing food luck and new beginnings.

Some of the children performed a dragon and lion dance, which both highlight the new year beginning involving opportunities that make positive choices and building caring relationships.

We shared that this year is the year of the ‘horse’. We shared facts and qualities about this symbol, whilst also looking at the symbol of the ‘dragon’ (Mrs Bullerwell) and the ‘rabbit’ (Miss Greenwell).

Towards the end of our collective worship, we shared a Chinese poem and said a prayer about new beginnings and our value of ‘courage’.

Thank you to all parents and carers who attended!
