This week in school is’Sports Week’. Throughout the week, the children will be taking part in lots of different sport related activities.
In our allocated sports slot this morning, Year 3 took part in learning about the game of tennis. First, the children warmed up by doing lots of stretches and exercises on the spot. They were then numbered 1-4 in a line and took turns in different ways a tennis player moves on the court. Some of the movements included; jogging, sprinting, side steps and dodging backwards.
Mr Rudge then showed the children how to correctly hold a tennis racket, whilst also practising the correct stance we needed to stand in. The children were then given a tennis ball and had to try and keep the tennis ball balancing in the centre of the tennis racket. A lot of us thought this was going to be easy, but in fact it took a lot of skill to do! Mr Rudge then showed the children how to push down the tennis ball with the tennis racket. He said that there is no need for you to hit the ball, all they had to use was a pushing down movement. Again, this was incredibly tricky to do as there was also our stance to have in mind as well as our hand-eye control.
