Science
Through the study of science, pupils will understand the world through the three key areas of biology, chemistry and physics. Our pupils will develop their experimental thinking and curiosity to investigate the world around them. They will become reflective thinkers who see links and patterns in a meaningful way and acquire specific skills and knowledge to enable them to think scientifically, to gain an understanding of scientific processes and provide them with an understanding of the uses of science for both today and in the future. Through our curriculum provision, we endeavour to embrace a child’s natural curiosity about the universe around them, whilst simultaneously promoting a respect for all living organisms and the environment.

Year One: Senses
In Year One’s science lesson we have been looking at the different senses. We used our taste to work out different drinks, we used our touch to feel what was in the bag, we used our smell to work out what was sprayed, our hearing to know what animal we could hear and...
Year 3 Forces
On Thursday, Year 3 investigated how things move differently on different surfaces. They conducted an investigation in which they measured the distance that a toy car travelled on four different surfaces around school; the MUGA, the yard, the hall and the carpet of...
Year One: Hall Hill Farm
Year One had a wonderful time at Hall Hill Farm! The children spent the day exploring the farm and feeding a variety of animals, including goats and sheep. They especially enjoyed the chance to hold chicks, rabbits, and guinea pigs. It was a fun and memorable day for...
Science – How does blood get around our body?
This half term in Science, we are learning about the circulatory system and how blood gets around our body. On Friday morning, after looking at diagrams and reading about the different parts of a mammal’s heart, we enjoyed dissecting hearts to take a closer look! We...
Kingsmeadow Visit
On Thursday 26th June, the year 5 class were invited to visit Kingsmeadow. It was very exciting as none of us knew what we were expecting. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed and observed that the school has values that they live by just like St Aidan's. We were then...
Flower Dissection in Year 5
In year 5, we have been looking at the different parts of a plant in our science lessons. Last week we dissected a range of flowers cutting them from the middle so we could locate the parts and take photos of our findings. We worked in table groups for this activity...
Professor Brainstorm
Today we were lucky enough to have a visit from Professor Brainstorm! Professor Brainstorm aims to make science fun by doing lots of exciting experiments. We thoroughly enjoyed his Magical Science Show and learnt lots about electricity, air pressure and temperature....
British Science Week – Should we flush it away?
Today Year 6 completed our British Science Week investigation: Should we flush it away? In groups, we investigated which materials change and break down easily in water so that they can be safely flushed away by submerging different materials in water and shaking them...
Women in Science
This half term in Science, we have thoroughly enjoyed researching a range of female scientists past and present such as Ada Lovelace, Mae Jemison, Marie Curie and Jane Goodall. We worked in groups to find out about their inspirational lives, what scientific...
Year One: Washington Wetlands
Year One had a fantastic day exploring the outdoors. Prior to our visit, we read Ava’s Destiny. A story of a half bird, half girl magical being that makes lots of good choices in protecting the environment . Year One were shocked to met Ava in Washington. They helped...
