This afternoon, we enjoyed an enjoyable afternoon at the Centre for Life, taking part in a science workshop called ‘How do our bodies work?’ We began the workshop by revisiting our learning about the different organs of the human body and their functions. Then we found out about the digestive system in more detail, recreating the journey of food from mouth through the stomach and intestines to eventually the toilet using some Weetabix and a banana, some tights, bags and various liquids to represent the bodily fluids of saliva, enzymes and stomach acid! After this, we used a sieve, some yellow liquid to represent blood plasma and beads to represent white and red blood cells to show how the kidneys filter waste from our blood into urine. These fun activities were certainly memorable, and have helped us to remember lots of scientific knowledge about the human body and how it works.
