As part of Library week, Year 2 visited Gateshead Library this morning,
We were greeted by Jill, who told us why Library week is so special and how the children can get a hold of their very own library card. She then asked us if we knew the difference between fiction and non-fiction books and asked us if we could give her some examples. She then talked to us about Mr Dewy who invented ‘The Book Finder’ and explained how the dewy system works inside of the library.
Jill then told the children that in pairs they would be playing a game of ‘Library Bingo’ where they had to look at the books in the library and see if they could tick off any of the bingo statements on their bingo list. Some of the statements included; ‘a book that has a lot of red on the cover’ and ‘a book with a one word title’.
Next, Jill read her favourite story ‘What’s Next Door?’. The children really enjoyed joining in with the telling of the story!
At the end of the library session, the children each chose 1 book to bring back to school to enjoy reading in their free time.
