To celebrate National Poetry Day, St Aidan’s had the pleasure of welcoming a poet, Chris White, to our school. A hilarious poet, author and cartoon illustrator, Chris has worked for the BBC and at countless festivals, not to mention with thousands of schools from around the world. He shared some of his brilliant poetry with the whole school this morning. Many giggles were had by all as our children joined in with repeated phrases, actions and rhymes.
Then, Years 3-6 enjoyed some poetry writing workshops with Chris throughout the day. He showed us how to draw some hybrid creatures in a cartoon style before modelling how to use rhyming words and a poem scaffold to write our own poem inspired by our imaginary animal. There are definitely some budding poets and illustrators in our midst!
