We have been celebrating all thing literary this week in school in libraries week. We talked about our nightmare school in RSHE and how Miss Trunchbull would be a nightmare teacher, which led us on to discuss Mrs Bullerwell’s favourite book by Roald Dahl -Matilda. Then on Monday afternoon, it was wonderful to welcome our parents into school to share our fantastic library, and get a chance to read together.
On Tuesday we walked to Gateshead Library. After our trek ascending the banks of Bensham, we arrived with a few tired legs, to a warm welcome by the library staff. We loved the library treasure hunt, which helped us become more familiar with the layout of the library and the vast array of books available. However, the children were all only after 1 book to take back to school. Charlie and the chocolate factory. This is the book we are reading as a class in our shared reading time. We were lucky to find a copy which we borrowed from the library.
Thursday was National Poetry Day. After a very energetic assembly by Chris, the poet and illustrator who visited us for the day we went back to class to be introduced to the poem The Ning Nang Nong by Spike Milligan. Keep watching our school website for our performance in the next few weeks. In the afternoon, we got a chance to perform our poetry to Chris as we were lucky enough to have a worskshop session with him. He was ever so impressed with our drawing and poetry skills, as were we with his.
After a very exciting week and day we were ready to unburden some of that built up energy with some fast paced circuits on the castle. We had wonderful week, with lots of learning.
