In our English lessons this half term, one of the books we are going to be reading is ‘The Tunnel’ by Anthony Browne.
Yesterday, we read the first couple of pages as a class and found out that a brother and a sister enter the tunnel. We talked about what they might see at the other end of the tunnel. Some suggestions included; witches, dinosaurs and a scary forest.
Today, we decided to take a short walk to a tunnel that is in our local area. We walked through the tunnel as a class and talked about what we could smell, hear and see. We compared our thoughts to what the children in the story could also smell, hear and see. Using body language and facial expressions, we then walked through individually and showed Miss Greenwell at the end of the tunnel how it made us feel being on our own. Next, in partners, one of us shut our eyes, whilst the other partner guided us through the tunnel. It really made us feel like we were in the story!
