Celebrating Diwali in Nursery

This week Nursery have been learning about the Hindu festival of lights – Diwali. We have had great fun learning about the story of Rama and Sita and the ten headed demon Ravana. We heard from a little girl called Jessica who told us all about how she celebrates Diwali each year. We had a go at recreating some of the Diwali traditions in class, such as making diva lamps using salt dough, brightly coloured sparkly paints, play dough and jewels, we made rangoli patterns and mendhi hand designs. Once our diva lamps were ready, we placed them in a row and lit the candles. Diwali means ‘row of lighted lamps’. We sang a Diwali song before blowing out the candles to end our celebrations.
