Year 4’s Trip to the Great North Museum

We had a great time at the Great North Museum on Friday as part of our History and Science curriculum enhancement.

After a short bus journey we split into two groups. One group focused on Science first in the Living Things exhibit while the second group explored the Anglo-Saxon exhibit first. When we were in the Living Things exhibit, we were tasked with classifying the range of animals the museum holds into carnivores, herbivores and omnivores, based on what the animals eat. It was interesting to learn about a huge variety of animals, some we had never even heard of before! In The Anglo-Saxon exhibit we were given a quiz to complete, based on the artefacts in the museum. It was fantastic to see some of the tools, every day objects and jewellery that we have discussed in lessons in real life!

After completing our tasks, we were able to have a look at some of the other exhibits the Great North Museum has on offer. We particularly enjoyed the Ancient Egypt exhibit which gave us some useful background knowledge which will help us when we come to study this topic in Year 5.
