First Aid in Year 1

Today Wayne and Matt from I can save a life came into school to teach us some basic first aid. First of all Wayne showed us a picture of the Paw Patrol team and asked us what we knew about them. We talked about being part of a team and helping others , we then discussed how we can help others too.

Wayne asked for a volunteer to pretend they had fallen in the playground, he then talked us through the conversations we would have with the person and the checks we would carry out. We would check if they had hurt themselves, find something soft for their head and then put on some blue gloves to check the persons head. We then acted this out with our friends.

Wayne then showed us how to use a bandage to stop a bleeding arm or leg, he taught us to treat the arm or leg like a straw and apply pressure below the wound to stop the bleeding and then find something clean and fluffy, usually a bandage, to wrap around the wound.

We received a certificate at the end of the session, we were all very proud of ourselves!
