Young Leaders Award Community Action Project

As part of our Archbishop of York’s Young Leaders Award, we have been learning about what good leadership looks like and how we can be good role models for our peers and younger children in school. Over the last few weeks, we have enjoyed researching and learning life lessons from the lives of inspirational leaders both past and present such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Barack Obama, David Attenborough and Rosa Parks. This week in RSHE, we took part in a local area walk to consider how we could have a positive impact on our local community. To be successful in completing the award, we must plan and carry out a community action project that leads to change for the better in Teams. After looking closely at our local area, we noticed that there is lots of litter in our public spaces around school… some of us counted hundreds of items in fact in a short survey whilst on a twenty minute walk around Teams! We suggested to Mrs Fraser and Mr Dunnigan that perhaps we could take part in a litter pick in the next few weeks as well as design posters to discourage littering and write some letters to our local councillor to campaign for more bins in the local area. Watch this space for more information and photographs of our exciting project!
