Paper Recycling

As part of Recycling Week, Nursery have been learning about recycling paper. We learnt how paper can be recycled in a paper mill, rather than chopping down trees. This is much better for the environment. We had a go at recycling our own paper using old magazines and newspaper, just like paper is made in a paper mill. It was lots of fun!
We tore old paper from magazines and newspaper into tiny pieces (fantastic for our fine motor skills!) and then added water. We mixed, crumbled and kneaded the mixture and then pushed it through a sieve to squeeze out the water. This left us with the paper pulp. Next we rolled the pulp out onto a tea towel. This flattened the pulp and squeezed out any water that was left. We have left the paper out to dry and are looking forward to seeing the final product when it has dried out.

This week we are collecting as much paper recycling as we can to add to our school recycling bin.
