On Tuesday Year 5 went back in time to the Stone Age. The children took part in a variety of fun outdoor activities, these included;
- Building Nomadic shelters using trees, canes and tarps similar to Palaeolithic shelters made from trees, bones and animal skins.

- Hunting and scavenging animals (pictures) hidden around the school site.
- Water filtration – making water more suitable for drinking as there was no tap water in Stone Age times!

- Making Stone Age hand axes – Stone Age people didn’t have knives, so instead they knocked two rocks together, probably flint, to create a sharp cutting surface.

- Making a spear by using a peeler to sharpen a stick made from green wood.

- Fire lighting by rubbing 2 sticks together – the Paleolithic way was very difficult! Then moving onto using fire steels. once the fire was lit the children heated marshmallows using their spears.

The children had a fantastic day and were able to reinforce and enrich their history learning from across the half term.
