In Music this half term, Year 5 will be focusing on ‘Blues Music’.
First, Stuart played the children a blues song, ‘Why I sing the blues’ by BB king. The children listened to the song then appraised it. Some comments included:
‘It’s quite jazzy and uplifting.’
‘Was there a xylophone playing?’
‘I like the beat in it, but I wouldn’t usually listen to this kind of music.’
‘It made me want to dance.’
‘I liked it because it’s a different type of music that I’m not used to listening too.’
Stuart then told us that we would be making up our own blues song. We first looked at the structure of a blues song, which included repeated lines, then came up with a whole class lyric, before working in partners to come up with our own. We then performed our song to the rest of the class. Miss Greenwell was so impressed with the children’s confidence! Well Done Year 5!
