This morning, Year 6 led the whole school and Year 6 parents in collective worship, focusing on new beginnings and the Christian value of hope. The Bible tells us that hope is an attitude of mind that we develop through faith in God and each other. Desmond Tutu said that “Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all the darkness.” We performed a poem called ‘New Beginnings’ by Tony Walsh and shared our hopes for the future. Then we shared the following story:
One night, a house catches fire and a young boy is forced to flee to the roof to escape. His father is stood on the ground below with outstretched arms, calling to his son, “Jump! I will catch you.” He knew that the boy had to jump to save his life. All the boy could see however was flame, smoke and blackness. He was afraid. Afraid to leave the roof. But his father kept yelling, “Jump! I will catch you.” The boy protested, “But Daddy, I can’t see you.” His father replied, “But I can see you. And that is all that matters.”
In the story, we are the boy. And the father is God. We may not be able to see Him, but He can see us.
Parents, teachers and the children were so proud of our presentation skills and we feel that important messages about God always being there for us were delivered well to our school community. God is a true hope.
