The Birth of Jesus

We are excited to share with you some of the wonderful activities that we have done in our RE lessons. Our question this half term is ‘Why Does Christmas Matter to Christians?’ They have been learning about the Christmas story from the Gospel of Luke.

Children went on a journey around the school, looking for clues that revealed the next part of the verse from the bible. They worked in teams and used their reading and problem-solving skills. They learned about the key people and events in the story, such as Mary, Joseph, Angel Gabriel and the shepherds. They also learned about the historical context of the story, such as the Roman census and the town of Bethlehem.

Finally, the children had a chance to act out the story in a role play. They pretended to be the shepherds who heard the angel’s announcement and visited the baby Jesus. We were very impressed by the children’s enthusiasm and acting.
