Today in Maths, Year 5 out that they would be covering a new topic; ‘Kilograms and Kilometres’.
In our lesson, the children looked at grams and kilograms. They were shown different weights; 1g, 10g, 500g and 1kg. They then used these weights to compare how light and heavy they were to each other. They found out that 100g is made up of 10, 10g weights, 1kg is made up of 10, 100g weights and 1kg is made up of 100, 10g weights.
The children then looked at a gram and kilogram single and double number line, where they also learnt about how decimals are placed when learning about weight.
