In English this morning, we found out that we would be concentrating on The Christmas Story, in preparation for us to write a diary entry towards the end of half term.
In our lesson today, we focused on speaking and listening. We watched a video of The Christmas Story, stopping at different parts that we don’t usually speak about. We looked at the significance of the angels and talked about how God came down to Earth, as incarnation was occurring and we discussed that this was a really special time because their was a newborn baby boy who was incredibly special. We also discussed how Mary and Joseph would have felt terrified when the angels appeared because they would have never seen anything like this before happening. One comment from a child was: ‘It says in the Bible that he descended silently and usually babies cry when they are born. So, from the moment that Jesus was born, you could tell that he was different to the rest.
We then looked at some carols and their words. We discussed the gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Some of the children asked why there is no record of Jesus’ child hood. We said that maybe this is because there were no other significant events other than when Jesus was born and died that was re-recorded. We also picked out key points of each carol, such as; when the wearily world was in sin and despair, but the saviour Jesus Christ was born and the meaning of ‘fall on you knees’ meaning they fell in amazement.
