Stomping Grounds Forest School

Despite the cold weather, Year 4 enjoyed a fun filled forest school session led by Stomping Ground staff at Gateshead Riverside Park.

The morning began with the children taking part in a mindfulness activity next to the River Tyne. The children were encouraged to be still and use their senses to look across the river towards Newcastle and then to listen carefully to the sounds that could be heard. They explored how this moment of calmness made them feel.

Following this, the children excitedly walked to the Forest School site. They learnt how to stay safe in the environment and the boundaries were identified.

The children then took part in a carousel of activities in small groups, working in teams to create small animals and homes using clay, sticks, pine cones, wood and leaves, using spices and water to create paintings on large sheets and then finally having lots of fun with our friends playing in the hammocks and on the rope swings .

Finally, the session ended by gathering around the campfire and sharing our learning from the session.
