The Great Fire of Gateshead Workshop

Year 3 have today enjoyed a visit to The Discovery Museum in Newcastle to learn about the Great Fire of Gateshead.

Following some fun exploring and investigating in the Science room, the children enjoyed lunch with their friends and then the very informative workshop with Fran in the classroom.

Fran shared some facts with the children about the Great Fire of Gateshead and and asked lots of tricky questions which the children all enjoyed discussing. They could identify many differences between the Quayside today and the Quayside in 1854 such as electricity, buildings, the use of the river and the bridges.

The children learnt that England was ruled by Queen Victoria at the time of the fire, and explored some Victorian artefacts to discover what life was like for people during this time.

Finally, the session ended with the children creating a puppet show to illustrate the story and key events in Gateshead on the 6th October 1854.
